360/365 Film Festival (formerly the High Falls Film Festival)…  :: May 5th, 2010

Well folks, it is that time of year again… no, not lilac time, but Film Festival time!! Each year, McKay’s Photography sponsors the High Falls Film Festival (now the 360/365 Film Festival) and one movie in particular. Well, let the parties and movies commence! Tonight begins the 5 day action packed festival that is sure to be a huge hit once again!

You may recall that last year, MP sponsored the smash hit and Oscar nominated documentary, Food, Inc… (read my BLOG post here). Well, this year, MP will be sponsoring the documentary, Waste Land, which is playing twice during the festival! You can catch “Waste Land” at Little 5 on Saturday the 8th at 2:45 as well as Sunday the 9th at the Dryden at 5 pm (I will be there).

Watch the trailer here: http://www.wastelandmovie.com/index.php?/trailer/

Waste Land synopsis: “Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band of “catadores” — or self-designated pickers of recyclable materials. Muniz’s initial objective was to “paint” the catadores with garbage. However, his collaboration with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals both dignity and despair as the catadores begin to re-imagine their lives. Walker (Devil’s Playground, Blindsight) has great access to the entire process and, in the end, offers stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.”

There are many other amazing movies playing at the festival this weekend, in particular a new animated movie called “Secret of Kells.” Just watch the trailer! AMAZING visual masterpiece!

As usual, McKay’s Photography hooks up her super awesome movie going customers with passes to some of the films and this year was no exception! It is my pleasure to reward my clients in any way that I can and to share this experience with other movie going geeks like myself….

Have a great weekend, and check back here and the 360/365 website all weekend for updated images and movie reviews.
