Trash the Dress, Winter Edition!  :: December 22nd, 2009

On a cold and snowy day, a few ladies wore their old wedding dress from previous marriages out for a day of play. Playing in the cemetery, sledding and bar hopping were all on the agenda and the ladies felt liberated by the end! The girls had their make-up done in their particular style, drank some liquid courage and then went out to brave the cold with me and my camera. All of these ladies are divorced from the person they married the dress in and wanted to free themselves of the emotional chains that the dress represented. A way to purge, if you will. Hopefully it was a cathartic experiment and I am very interested in doing more of this in the future. It was a wee bit cold for the ladies, and we didn’t have much time with daylight so there are a lot of things I would have done different now. My goal was achieved however, as I had set out to play with some new lighting ideas and really push myself out of my comfort zone. Being in the dark of night and in the cold will do that! Recently a good friend made some honeycomb snoots for my Nikon flashes and I’ve been wanting to play with them, so I did. Nathan was even my trusty flash holder for most of the day and he was an excellent assistant, braving the cold with me while I set up. All in all, it was a fun day running around with friends! Special thanks go out to Dennis Allen for stopping by to do some video for the event and to Dawn Nagle for providing her house to get ready as well as the make-up! That was SO sweet and extremely helpful!

Hey Heather wish I could have stayed for the rest of the day, the fun was just brewing when I left. Let’s get together and feed the video footage into an apple and play with it…
