The Punch Brothers :: November 19th, 2008
What a crazy Monday! I don’t even know where to begin! Many months ago, I was emailing back and forth with a B&G from Buffalo who were interested in my Photography for their wedding in 2009… then somehow the Bride figured out that I did the photography for the Varnish Cooks (my banjo teacher’s band)… When we finally met to sign the contract, I found out the potential Groom was also learning the banjo and a fan of the band, The Punch Brothers. We joked about going to see them play in Buffalo together and doing a mini-engagement session at dinner before the show.
Well, skip forward several months, and not only did that happen, but Alison, my Bride to be, invited me to photograph a private recording and interview of the band at the WBFO studios before the concert (she is a Music Producer). So, last minute, I drove to Buffalo to spend the whole day with Alison and the band! Amazing. Alison and I were literally the only ones at this recorded session! I didn’t really even know what to say to the band, so I just kind of let them work while I was taking pictures. I did have them sign my CD before they left though!
Alison, Trevor and I killed time in between by eating at the yummy Falafel Bar, then having a beer with their kittens at their apartment before the show. Turns out that Alison and I both eat the same type of hippie food! Awesome!
So, we went to the Punch Brothers concert, with amazing seats and it turned out that we were sitting in the same row as my banjo instructor, Ben! Alison and Ben needed to connect anyway, so after the show I was happy to introduce them! It was nice to get caught up with him and to see him at a concert of a band I wouldn’t know about if it wasn’t for him anyway!
Needless to say, it was an action packed day with amazing networking opportunities for everyone. I had a blast getting to know Alison and Trevor better, and the Punch Brothers were a talented and friendly group! On my long, snowy drive home, I was trying to decide who had the better job… Alison or me? I surely feel blessed!

The reason I was looking at your website was because I was in the Prom-a-Palooza show, but as I was looking at your home page, I saw some pictures of a band that looked really familiar, and I thought, could it be the Punch Brothers? So then I searched them and found this article, and I just found it funny because my sister is friends with the members! Small world!
